    Vajpayee was born to Krishna Bihari Vajpayee and Krishna Devi Vajpayee on 25 Dec 1924 in Gwalior. Pandit Shyam Lal Vajpayee, his grandfather had migrated from his ancestral village of Bateshwar, Uttar Pradesh to Morena, Gwalior. His father, Krishna Bihari Vajpayee, was an author and a schoolmaster in his town.
